News flash - seasonal allergies are a huge problem. Over 50+ million Americans are currently suffering from this condition, and the rate is only growing due to climate change! If you’re a person with seasonal allergies, you know exactly how annoying and day-ruining symptoms can be, especially when they persist all year! And, for those of us with moderate to severe allergies, OTC meds might not be enough to give us the relief we desperately need to get on with our lives. Us allergy sufferers out there need all the extra help we can get!

Here are some helpful hacks to help make your nose’s life a bit easier this allergy season.

Stay hydrated

Don’t roll your eyes at this one - keeping your body hydrated can help decrease inflammatory responses, which is pretty much all an allergic reaction is. This study showed that bodies starved for water had increased inflammatory reactions, so make sure to keep your body hydrated and happy!

Stock up on stinging nettle

Stinging nettle has been used in herbal treatments for thousands of years by many different cultures. This powerful plant contains a ton of vital vitamins that make it an excellent anti-inflammatory treatment! You can brew fresh or dried stinging nettle into a delicious tea.

Relax with some eucalyptus oil

Essential oils are good for more than just sprucing up the air. In this recent study, Eucalyptus oil has been shown to have great microbial benefits! It’s also been known to help open up air passageways - for any allergy sufferer with a stuffed nose, that’s a godsend. One of the best ways to soak up its benefits is to place a few drops of it in a bowl of hot water, lean over the bowl, and then cover yourself and the mixture with a towel!

Get your probiotic on

In 2015, researchers reviewed 23 past studies with 1,900 participants and discovered that those who took probiotics had improved symptoms! When looking for probiotics to boost your allergy treatments, make sure you’re choosing a quality probiotic. Factors like bacteria quality and variety can affect how effective it is!

This allergy season, take some time to do what you can to give your nose a break - and hang in there, guys! If you’re allergic to ragweed (this season’s pollen agitator), read our recent blog post here about everything you need to know about ragweed!
