Shedding a light on light therapy
By Gabbi Di Marino (content manager and fellow allergy-sufferer)
Whether it’s the comfort of turning on a light in the dark or soaking up some much-needed rays, light is something us humans just can’t get enough of. Not only is it something we need for survival, but it’s also become an everyday virtue we may completely forget about. With so much technology at the tip of our fingertips, the wonder of electricity can get pushed to the wayside.
But it’s more than just something to help us see or to power our beloved devices or to give us a killer tan - there’s innate healing properties of light that many are completely unaware of. Confused? Don’t worry. This post will break down how light, specifically red light, is an incredible tool for medicine!
A brief history of light therapy
Although using light as a method of healing may sound like something out of a science fiction movie, this practice actually dates back thousands of years to several ancient societies. The Egyptians, for example, had elaborate chambers where the sun would shine through colored crystals and into the body of the person inside, facilitating the healing of whatever was ailing them. Each color crystal symbolized a different area of focus, allowing The Egyptians to personalize their treatment. Other ancient civilizations to use light for medicinal purposes were The Romans, The Greeks, The Babylonians, and The Assirians.
But light therapy didn’t end with these civilizations. As the advancement of science continued, so did the use of light as a healing tool. More specifically, the use of red light. In 1903, the scientist Neils Felson was awarded a Nobel Prize of Medicine for his work with light, and although this was primarily practiced in Eastern Europe, the interest in light therapy only continued to grow and grow within the scientific community. In the last fifteen years, huge strides have been made in understanding and honing in on the power of light to deliver relief to those suffering from countless ailments.
Present-day applications of this remarkable technology are used to:
Heal wounds
Regenerate tissue
Reduce lesions caused by psoriasis
Improve joint health in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee
Diminish the appearance of scars
Build up collagen and improve skin complexion
Increase hair growth for those with Alopecia
Decrease side-effects from cancer treatments
Impressed? We sure were! And it’s this fascination with light therapy that sparked an idea - how could we use this incredible technology to help those suffering from pesky seasonal allergies?
Using light to fight hay fever
With over 50+ millionAmericans alone under the itchy, nagging thumb of seasonal allergies, we at Fluo Labs became determined to do something about it. But we didn’t want to offer another side-effect inducing drug or expensive, long-term treatment. No, we wanted to find a way to harness the power of red light to give holistic, on-the-go relief to even the most severe of symptoms.
After 15 years of hard work and research, we finally figured it out. The key? Photobiomodulation. Now, don’t let the name scare you. Simply put, photobiomodulation is a light driven reaction used to boost your cell’s fighting power against allergic agents. Using a proprietary formula, our ground-breaking device delivers a precise balance of dosage, wavelength, power, and pulse of safe light waves. It’s this specially curated combo that allows our device to act as a natural antihistamine, so you can leave side-effects behind, and embrace the change of seasons with open arms and an unstuffed nose as early as 2022!
